IL HB2142

Allows emergency services districts formed solely to provide ambulance services to operate within fire protection districts that already provide ambulance service, provided the fire protection district board adopts a resolution to cease its tax levy for emergency ambulance service

Modifies public notice requirements for emergency services district formation hearings by requiring publication in newspapers for 2 successive weeks, with posting in 10 public places only if no newspaper of general circulation exists in the proposed district

Removes the requirement that formation hearings be held within 20 days of petition filing, instead requiring hearings be scheduled to allow a referendum to appear on the next general election ballot

Expands the explicit powers of emergency services district boards of trustees to include providing ambulance services, borrowing money, mortgaging or pledging district property, and buying/selling real estate for district operations

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
