IL HB2436

Expands the scope of immigration cases that public defenders in counties with over 3,000,000 population (Cook County) can handle, allowing representation for cases "arising or being heard" within the county rather than only those in immigration courts physically located within the county

Authorizes public defenders to represent county residents in immigration cases located outside the county boundaries

Requires county board concurrence for public defenders to provide immigration legal services to noncitizens

Allows the county board to authorize public defender representation beyond the standard geographical limits if desired

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
