IL HB2502

Requires the State Board of Education to collect annual data from school districts on the number of students referred to law enforcement and the number of referral instances, disaggregated by outcome type, race, ethnicity, sex, age, grade level, English learner status, and disability

Mandates the State Board of Education to publish an annual report on student referrals to law enforcement beginning January 31, 2027, covering all public school districts and charter schools

Prohibits school personnel from issuing monetary fines, fees, tickets, or citations for municipal code violations to students for incidents occurring on school grounds, during school events, or on school transportation

Expands reciprocal reporting requirements between school districts and law enforcement to include both criminal and civil offenses committed by students (previously only criminal offenses)

Prohibits school personnel from referring truant students to law enforcement, school resource officers, or peace officers for the purpose of issuing fines or fees as punishment for truancy
