IL HB2666

Requires all Illinois municipalities to stagger the terms of their alderpersons, eliminating the previous system where cities under 100,000 could adopt staggered terms only through a voter petition and referendum process

Municipalities that have not already adopted staggered terms must implement them at the next regular alderperson election, with even-numbered ward alderpersons elected to initial 2-year terms and odd-numbered ward alderpersons elected to 4-year terms

After the initial staggered election, all subsequent alderperson terms will be 4 years, resulting in approximately half of alderpersons being elected every 2 years

Exempts the City of Chicago and the City of Chicago Heights from the mandatory staggered election requirement
