IL HB2837

Reduces the required time for Chicago firefighters in exempt positions (above career service rank) to have their pension benefits calculated based on their actual exempt rank salary from 5 consecutive years to 3 years

Expands the qualifying exempt ranks for enhanced pension calculations to include captain, ambulance commander, lieutenant, and paramedic-in-charge, in addition to the previously covered battalion chief and field officer positions

Removes the birth year restriction that previously limited the exempt position salary benefit to firefighters born before 1955, making it available to all qualifying firefighters regardless of age

Requires the City of Chicago to implement these pension changes without reimbursement from the State of Illinois under the State Mandates Act
