IL HB3009

Requires immediate written notification to parents or legal guardians when a student in grades 1-3 is identified as having a substantial reading deficiency or characteristics of dyslexia

Identification may be based on screening data, diagnostic assessments, progress monitoring, statewide assessments, or teacher observations

Written notification must be provided by the student's teacher and include confirmation that the student has been identified with a substantial reading deficiency

Notification must describe current services the school district is providing and proposed supplemental instructional services and supports to remediate the reading deficiency

Parents and guardians must also receive strategies they can use at home to help their student achieve reading proficiency
