IEP teams must begin evaluating at each annual review meeting whether a child with disabilities should participate in their own IEP meetings, starting no later than the first annual review after the child turns 13 years old

The bill amends the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code (105 ILCS 5/14-8.02) regarding identification, evaluation, and placement procedures

This requirement adds student voice considerations to the existing IEP process, which already includes provisions for parental notification, assistive technology evaluation, and transition planning for students with disabilities
