Circuit court clerks would receive a new $35,000 annual stipend from the State to compensate for additional duties imposed by Public Act 101-652 (the SAFE-T Act/pretrial reform legislation)

The $35,000 stipend must be adjusted annually based on the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income cost of living adjustment

The stipend is paid in addition to existing county board compensation and current state awards ranging from $3,500-$6,500 annually for other statutory duties

The General Assembly would appropriate funds to the Supreme Court, which would distribute the awards as annual lump sum payments to circuit court clerks statewide

County boards are prohibited from reducing clerk compensation paid from county funds as a result of the clerk receiving this state stipend
