IL HB3842

Amends the Township Code to clarify that townships in counties with 1,000,000+ population may contract with municipalities or the county for police protection in unincorporated areas using funds from the special police district tax levy

Expands permitted uses of special police district funds to include broader "public safety" measures such as crime prevention programs, traffic safety measures, anti-gang and anti-violence intervention programs, and graffiti abatement

Explicitly prohibits special police district funds from being used for school resource officer wages or agreements, or for red light cameras, speed cameras, or automated license plate readers

Maintains the existing tax cap of 0.10% of the value of taxable property for the special police district levy

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
