Veterans traveling to or from medical appointments would be exempt from paying tolls on Illinois toll highways if they obtain an Official Permit Card from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority would be required to adopt rules for issuing permits to qualifying veterans.

"Veteran" is defined as an individual who served in the Armed Forces of the United States, the National Guard, or the reserves of the Armed Forces.

The bill amends Section 19 of the Toll Highway Act (605 ILCS 10/19), adding veterans to existing toll exemptions for emergency vehicles, law enforcement, and public transit.
