Direct service workers in the Department of Human Services Home Services Program must complete at least 2 hours of dementia training at the start of employment and annually thereafter.

Training must cover Alzheimer's disease and dementia, safety risks, and communication and behavior techniques.

Current employees have 6 months from the effective date to complete the initial training requirement.

The Department must provide dementia training curriculum to contracted agencies, and workers who can prove equivalent dementia training under other laws are exempt from duplicate requirements.

For personal assistants covered by collective bargaining agreements, the Department must establish training parameters in consultation with the joint training committee created under those agreements.
