IL HB4842

Amends the First Responders Suicide Prevention Act to extend confidentiality protections for peer support counseling sessions regardless of whether the peer support person works for the same agency as the first responder receiving support.

Establishes confidentiality protections for Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) sessions, prohibiting CISM practitioners from disclosing communications, records, notes, or reports from these sessions.

CISM practitioners cannot be compelled to testify about CISM session information in administrative, civil, or criminal proceedings.

Confidentiality exceptions apply to threats of suicide or homicide, mandatory reporting situations (domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse), admissions of criminal conduct, and refusal to perform protective duties.

Communications from peer support or CISM sessions may still be subpoenaed upon a showing of good cause.
