IL HB4855

Requires all Illinois school districts to provide direct social and emotional learning (SEL) instruction to students in grades K-12 at least 4 times per academic year, approximately once per quarter

SEL instruction must be delivered by a trained professional (licensed school counselor, school psychologist, or school social worker) during a class period of at least 30 minutes

Instruction must address age-appropriate competencies outlined in the Illinois Learning Standards for Social/Emotional Learning

Classroom teachers are required to reinforce SEL concepts through integrated academic curriculum and classroom practices

School districts must provide professional development to help educators align their instructional practices with SEL principles; effective January 1, 2028
