Residents ordered to vacate homes due to dangerous conditions (deterioration, unpermitted work, or similar causes) cannot be penalized by municipalities for remaining in the property for 7 days after receiving the vacate notice.

The 7-day grace period does not apply to evacuations ordered due to emergencies unrelated to property condition, such as fire, flooding, or severe storms.

Municipalities are shielded from liability for any harm to residents who choose to remain in the property during the 7-day grace period.

Home rule municipalities are prohibited from regulating trespassing in ways inconsistent with these provisions, limiting local authority on this matter statewide.
