Honors Staff Sergeant Robert Dale Herreid, a U.S. Army Special Forces advisor with the 5th Special Forces Group who was killed in action on October 10, 1968, during an ambush in Chau Doc Province, South Vietnam

SSG Herreid's remains were never recovered; he is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC

SSG Herreid received multiple military honors including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and Army Good Conduct Medal

Requests the Illinois Department of Transportation erect appropriate plaques or signs along the designated highway segment
