Future transportation legislative packages considered by the Illinois General Assembly should include complete consideration of the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD), including accessibility, affordability, and availability of transportation options

State agencies, regional planning organizations, and transportation providers are urged to prioritize accessibility, stakeholder engagement, and equitable investment in transportation infrastructure for the ID/DD community

Transportation providers serving individuals with ID/DD face funding challenges, operational barriers, and resource limitations that hinder their ability to adequately serve this population

Copies of the resolution will be delivered to the Governor, Secretary of IDOT, Chair of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, Directors of the Regional Transportation Authority, and relevant legislative committee leadership

Accessible transportation is recognized as essential for individuals with ID/DD to live independently, access healthcare, pursue education and employment, and participate in their communities
