Equal Pay Day was originated by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996 to illustrate the wage gap between men and women

The pay gap begins as early as one year after college and has long-term effects on women's Social Security earnings, retirement savings, and ability to fund children's education

Encourages Illinois citizens to learn about the pay gap experienced by women and specific demographic groups
