Mourns the passing of Judge Shelvin Louise Marie Hall, who died on October 8, 2025

Co-founded the first Black female-owned law firm in the nation specializing in civil rights cases in Houston, Texas, after training with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund

Served as general counsel for the Illinois Department of Human Rights beginning in 1982, then was appointed to the Cook County Circuit Court in 1991

Appointed to the Illinois Appellate Court, First District in 1999, serving until retirement in 2020; became the first woman judge on the executive committee of the Illinois Judicial Conference

Chaired the Judicial Council of the National Bar Association and held leadership roles with the Cook County Bar Association and Illinois Judicial Council
