Born in Cairo, Illinois on July 7, 1935; graduated from the University of Illinois in 1958 and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Worked as a teacher for Chicago Public Schools and Joliet Public Schools District, and later as a post-secondary investigator in the Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education

Founding member of the Far South Suburban chapter of the NAACP; served on boards including Aunt Martha's Social Service Agency, University of Illinois Black Alumni Association, and the Illinois State Board of Education Advisory Board

Illinois House of Representatives extends condolences to her surviving family, including her children Dana Scott-Person and Charles Scott, stepdaughters, four grandchildren, and numerous siblings
