Illinois House of Representatives congratulates Leo High School on its 100th anniversary of providing education to young men on Chicago's South Side

Leo High School opened September 7, 1926 in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood with over 120 students and has evolved from an all-white student body to one that is now all-Black or Hispanic

Currently enrolls more than 200 students with a 13-to-1 student-teacher ratio and has maintained a 100% graduation rate for over a decade

The school's men's choir gained national recognition as a finalist on America's Got Talent in 2025 and performed at the 2024 Democratic National Convention and celebrations honoring Pope Leo XIV

Centennial celebrations begin December 2025 under the theme "One Century, One Brotherhood, One Leo" with events continuing through 2026, including a scholarship benefit, Black History Month celebration, and centennial block party
