First woman in her family to earn a college degree, graduating from Indiana University in 1960 and later obtaining a master's degree

Dedicated educator who taught middle school English and Social Studies in North Chicago, then elementary reading in Woodland School District, retiring at 68 and continuing as a reading specialist until age 75

Active community member for over 60 years in Waukegan, serving with the League of Women Voters, Clare Cummings Club (as treasurer), and Friends of the Waukegan Public Library (including leadership roles)

Survived by her daughter Christina Marie Clay, MD, two granddaughters, and two brothers
