Illinois House of Representatives recognizes General George C. Marshall for his service as senior instructor of the 33rd Division of the Illinois National Guard from November 1933 to August 1936 at the rank of colonel.

Under Marshall's leadership, every unit of the 33rd Division was deemed satisfactory by federal inspectors for the first time in years by summer 1934, with the division showcased at Chicago's Century of Progress Fair.

Marshall transformed division training by reducing paperwork, eliminating unrealistic drills, and implementing practical exercises including map study and ground-based problem solving.

The 33rd Division's successful participation in August 1936 Army maneuvers in Michigan involving over 24,000 men for two weeks culminated Marshall's tenure, after which he was promoted to brigadier general.

A copy of the resolution will be presented to the Illinois Army National Guard's 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Urbana.
