The district operates a main library in East Dundee and a branch in West Dundee, serving approximately 71,500 residents across East Dundee, West Dundee, Carpentersville, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, and portions of Algonquin, Barrington Hills, and Elgin

Ranks as the seventh-largest library district in Illinois by population served

Library origins trace to the 1850s with subscription libraries; Carpentersville established one of the first tax-supported libraries in Illinois in 1876, following passage of the 1872 Illinois Library Act

The current district formed in 1959 through the merger of the Dundee Library and the Carpentersville Literary and Library Association
