Illinois House of Representatives commends five Niles Fire Department firefighter-paramedics for lifesaving actions on September 19, 2025

The crew from Station 3 responded to a cardiac arrest involving Kevin O'Connor, a 79-year-old Vietnam War veteran and retired Chicago Fire Department member with over 30 years of service

Lieutenant Bill White, Engineer Kevin Zender, and Firefighter-Paramedics Darrion Roszkowiak, Michael Ries, and Karl Boubouleix performed CPR and stabilized the patient before transport to Resurrection Medical Center

O'Connor remained on life support for 11 hours but made a remarkable recovery, overcoming the typical 9% survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests

Copies of the resolution will be presented to each of the five honored firefighter-paramedics and the Niles Fire Department
