Chief Hefel joined the Galena Police Department in 2011 after beginning his career in East Dubuque, rising through the ranks from patrolman to sergeant, investigator, and lieutenant before being appointed chief in 2021

Led community-oriented policing efforts emphasizing dignity, respect, and citizen partnerships, while being actively involved in narcotics enforcement resulting in numerous methamphetamine arrests throughout Northwest Illinois

Received DEA Clandestine Laboratory Training at Quantico and was part of the Jo Daviess County Critical Response Team that investigated a missing 14-year-old case, earning the team the National Missing and Exploited Children's Award in 2014

Resolution formally thanks Chief Hefel for his service to the community and State of Illinois and directs that a suitable copy be presented to him
