Illinois ratifies and joins the Nurse Licensure Compact, allowing registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPNs/VNs) with a multistate license to practice in any of the participating compact states without obtaining additional state licenses

Multistate license applicants must meet uniform requirements including graduation from an approved nursing program, passing the NCLEX exam, submitting fingerprints for FBI criminal background checks, having no felony convictions, and holding a valid Social Security number

The Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators is established as a joint public entity to administer the compact, promulgate rules, facilitate information exchange, and resolve disputes among party states

Illinois explicitly prohibits sharing or disclosing the contents of nationwide criminal history records checks conducted for multistate licensure purposes with the Interstate Commission or any other state

The compact does not supersede existing Illinois state labor laws, and nurses practicing in Illinois under multistate licensure privileges remain subject to Illinois nursing practice laws and licensing board jurisdiction
