Chicago police officers denied reinstatement by their employer due to physical or mental incapacity will be legally presumed disabled when applying for disability benefits under the pension code

Police officers meeting disability benefit requirements cannot be denied benefits unless their employer reinstates them to active duty or offers them a limited-duty position

Officers previously denied disability benefits without receiving a reinstatement offer or limited-duty position after the law takes effect become entitled to disability benefits

The State is not required to reimburse local governments for costs associated with implementing this mandate

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
