IL SB1404

Requires the Illinois Department of Agriculture to establish and operate an "access to nutritious food program" focused on distributing fresh food and providing nutrition education in food deserts

Defines "food desert" as areas where at least 25% of households are below the federal poverty level, or median family income is 80% or less of the state median, or where 500+ residents live more than 1 mile (urban) or 10 miles (rural) from a supermarket

Mandates the Department promote sharing of best practices and effective programs for improving fresh food distribution and nutrition education

Requires the Department to convene an annual meeting of nonprofit organizations and other interested parties to share information on successful food access programs
