Defines "leader-follower work zone vehicle" as a motor vehicle equipped with an automated driving system that is remotely connected to another vehicle, allowing coordinated movement within line of sight of the operator in highway construction or maintenance zones

Exempts leader-follower work zone vehicles from the Illinois Vehicle Code's "following too closely" requirements, which normally prohibit vehicles from following another more closely than is reasonable and prudent

Authorizes the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority to implement leader-follower work zone vehicles in construction or maintenance zones under their jurisdiction to protect workers

Designates the operator of the leader vehicle as the legal driver and operator of all motor vehicles in the safety system

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
