IL SB1742

Establishes the Rooftop Safety for First Responders Act, requiring safety measures on low-sloped roofs (less than 17% slope) for existing buildings, new construction, roof replacements, and renovations increasing building area by more than 50%

Requires edges of low-sloped roofs adjoining shafts or enclosed courts to have parapets, extended masonry, or guards meeting International Building Code Section 1015 standards

Mandates skylights and roof openings either be glazed with materials capable of withstanding a minimum 400-pound dynamic load test, or be protected by parapets/guards meeting code requirements

Requires municipalities to complete surveys of buildings with skylights and low-sloped roof openings by January 1, 2027, and every 2 years thereafter, with results shared with local police and fire departments

In counties with population over 1,000,000, survey results must be stored in computer-aided dispatch systems for emergency responder access
