IL SB1883

Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code Section 3-413 regarding display of registration plates and prohibited modifications

Adds "tape" to the list of prohibited items that cannot be affixed to registration plates, temporary registration plates, digital registration plates, registration stickers, or other evidence of registration without Secretary of State approval

Makes it unlawful to operate a vehicle equipped with any manual, electronic, or mechanical device that hides or obscures a registration plate

Existing law already prohibits registration plate covers, modifications to conceal plates from peace officers, and the sale or advertising of plate covers

Violations of plate obstruction through modification remain a Class A misdemeanor; violations related to plate covers remain traffic offenses or business offenses depending on the specific violation
