IL SB1948

Vehicles powered wholly or partially by electric batteries or hydrogen fuel cell systems may exceed posted weight limits by up to 2,000 pounds on Illinois roads

Expands an existing weight exemption that previously applied only to vehicles using natural gas or propane as motor fuel

The exemption does not apply to posted weight limits on specific highways or structures (such as bridges)

Amends Section 15-111 of the Illinois Vehicle Code regarding wheel and axle loads and gross weights

Removes previous language requiring the weight allowance to be calculated based on the difference between alternative fuel systems and comparable diesel systems
