IL SB1950

Establishes the End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (also known as "Deb's Law"), allowing adult Illinois residents with a terminal disease and 6 months or less to live to request medication to end their life peacefully

Requires patients to make two oral requests at least 5 days apart plus a written request witnessed by two people, with evaluations by both an attending physician and consulting physician confirming terminal diagnosis and mental capacity

Mandates referral to a licensed mental health professional if either physician has doubts about the patient's mental capacity or ability to make an informed decision

Protects healthcare professionals and entities from civil or criminal liability for participating or refusing to participate in aid-in-dying care in good faith, while allowing healthcare entities to prohibit staff from providing such care on their premises

Specifies that deaths under this Act are attributed to the underlying terminal disease on death certificates and do not constitute suicide, homicide, or elder abuse for any legal purpose
