Amends the Code of Civil Procedure (735 ILCS 5/2-1115) regarding punitive damages in legal malpractice cases

Expands the existing prohibition on punitive damages in legal malpractice actions to include damages labeled as "compensatory" that were originally assessed against the malpractice plaintiff in an underlying case

Prevents legal malpractice plaintiffs from recovering, as compensatory damages, punitive damages that they failed to obtain in the original underlying lawsuit due to attorney negligence

Clarifies that punitive damages cannot be recharacterized as compensatory damages to circumvent the existing statutory prohibition in legal malpractice suits
