IL SB2676

Amends the School Code to require public elementary schools to offer cursive writing instruction specifically in grades 3 through 5, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year

Removes school districts' discretion to determine at what grade level cursive writing is taught, replacing the previous requirement that only mandated instruction be offered before students complete grade 5

Maintains the existing requirement that public elementary schools offer at least one unit of instruction in cursive writing, originally established in the 2018-2019 school year

State Mandates Act may require reimbursement to school districts for costs associated with implementing this requirement
