IL SB2756

Defines "wildlife rifle" as a rifle capable of holding up to 3 rounds in the magazine and chamber combined, replacing the previous "single shot" requirement for deer hunting.

Allows deer hunting with centerfire wildlife rifles (up to 3-round capacity) instead of only single-shot centerfire rifles, while maintaining existing options of shotguns, handguns, muzzleloading rifles, and bows.

Prohibits deer hunting while possessing or being in close proximity to any magazine capable of making a rifle hold more than 3 rounds in the magazine and chamber combined.

Retains existing ammunition requirements: centerfire cartridges must be .30 caliber or larger with at least 500 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, and full metal jacket bullets remain prohibited for deer harvest.

Introduced January 13, 2026 by Senator Patrick J. Joyce, amending Sections 2.25 and 2.33 of the Illinois Wildlife Code (520 ILCS 5).
