Licensed motor vehicle dealers must provide customers with a current vehicle history report printed on the day of sale for every used or pre-owned vehicle transaction.

Vehicle history reports must include recall information, odometer readings, crash history, and other pertinent historical data specific to the vehicle's VIN.

Customers must sign a document confirming receipt and review of the vehicle history report before taking ownership, provided in a language they understand.

Dealers, body shops, or other organizations that inaccurately report mileage or historical data face $1,000 fines per violation, with subsequent violations resulting in license suspension or revocation.

Collected fines are deposited into the Illinois Dealer Recovery Trust Fund, and violations constitute unlawful business practices under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.
