IL SB2799

Amends the Genetic Information Privacy Act to remove the exemption that previously allowed long-term care insurers to use genetic information for underwriting purposes.

Prohibits health, life, disability, and long-term care insurers from canceling, limiting, or denying coverage or setting differential premium rates based on a person's genetic information, effective for policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2027.

Bars insurers from requiring, soliciting, or using an individual's genetic test results or considering decisions related to genetic testing for any insurance purpose.

Preserves insurers' ability to access medical records during applications and to consider clinical diagnoses of manifest diseases or disorders for insurance purposes as otherwise allowed by law.

Takes effect July 1, 2026.
