Beginning July 1, 2027, diesel-powered vehicles owned or operated by the State, counties, local governments, school districts, community colleges, public universities, and mass transit agencies must use a 19% biodiesel blend, up from the current 5% requirement.

During winter months (December, January, February, and March), the minimum biodiesel blend requirement drops to 10% to accommodate cold weather performance concerns.

Vehicles with engines designed or retrofitted to operate on higher biodiesel percentages or ultra low sulfur fuel are exempt from the standard blend requirements.

Amends Section 12-705.1 of the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/12-705.1) and takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
