Direct service workers in the Department of Human Services Home Services Program must complete at least 2 hours of dementia training at the start of employment and annually thereafter.

Training must cover Alzheimer's disease and dementia, safety risks, and communication and behavior.

Current employees have 6 months from the effective date to complete the initial training requirement.

The Department must provide dementia training curriculum to contracted agencies, and workers who have completed equivalent dementia training under other laws or rules are exempt.

For personal assistants under collective bargaining agreements, the Department must work with the joint training committee to establish specific curriculum parameters and topics.
