Licensed physicians in Illinois are prohibited from allowing artificial intelligence to prescribe medication unless they maintain full control and responsibility for the prescription.

Violations carry civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, assessed based on the degree of harm and circumstances, payable within 60 days of a Department order.

The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is granted authority to investigate actual, alleged, or suspected violations of the AI prescribing requirements.

The Department must adopt rules regarding the authorized use of artificial intelligence to prescribe medication under the Medical Practice Act of 1987.

The bill takes effect immediately upon becoming law; "artificial intelligence" is defined by reference to the Illinois Human Rights Act.
