Data brokers operating in Illinois must register annually with the Attorney General by January 31 and pay a registration fee determined by the Attorney General.

Registered data brokers must disclose whether they collect personal information of minors, precise geolocation data, and reproductive health care data.

The Attorney General will maintain a public website displaying all data broker registration information, including company names, addresses, and data collection practices.

Non-compliant data brokers face civil penalties of $200 per day of non-registration, plus unpaid fees and the Attorney General's investigation costs.

Entities covered by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act or Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act are exempt from the data broker definition, and a Data Broker Registry Fund will be created to fund enforcement.
