Requires auto insurers to provide written notice to policyholders before directing a body shop to repair their vehicle, informing them of their right to approve the type of body parts used

Gives vehicle owners the choice between three categories of replacement parts: OEM parts (manufactured by/for the vehicle manufacturer), aftermarket parts (not made by the manufacturer), or used parts

Insurers must obtain written approval from the insured indicating which type of body parts they approve for use in repairs

Violations constitute an improper claims practice under the Illinois Insurance Code, including using different parts than approved or refusing to pay for the type of parts the insured selected

Requirements apply only to vehicles within 5 years of their model year and may be fulfilled by the body shop on behalf of the insurer
