Requires Illinois State Police to biannually review hate crime training curriculum and permits consultation with the Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes for updates

Mandates the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board to conduct or approve training programs specifically focused on crimes motivated by bias

Training must help officers distinguish hate crimes from other crimes, understand and assist hate crime victims, and ensure accurate hate crime reporting

New law enforcement officers must complete the bias-motivated crimes training as part of their initial certification requirements

Current law enforcement officers who complete the training will receive continuing education credits toward their professional development requirements
