Social media platform operators must implement age assurance systems and take reasonable steps to prevent children (defined as age 16 or younger) from creating or maintaining accounts.

Operators may partner with app stores or device manufacturers to share user information for age verification purposes.

Parents or guardians may allow children to use their own accounts without violating the law.

Violations are subject to civil penalties of at least $1,000 per child affected, with each day of continued violation counting as a separate offense after a 30-day cure period.

Operators have 180 days after the Act takes effect to comply with the requirements.
