Illinois General Assembly urges Congress to authorize the President to present Congressional Gold Medals to all Korean War veterans who served under the United Nations Command from 1950-1953

Approximately 1.5 million U.S. Armed Forces members, including thousands from Illinois, served during the three-year conflict that began June 25, 1950 and ended with the armistice on July 27, 1953

Resolution requests one Congressional Gold Medal be given to the Smithsonian Institution and one Congressional Silver Medal to the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul for display and research

Combat troops from 16 allied nations served alongside American forces under the first international unified command in history

Copies of the resolution to be sent to the President, congressional leadership, Illinois Congressional Delegation, and foreign affairs ministries of nations that contributed volunteer forces
