Retired junior high school teacher who taught in Toledo and Altamont; also worked as a clerk for Francis Auction Company, assisted at Gieseking Funeral Home, and owned The Mowing Company

Graduate of Altamont Community High School (1955) and Eastern Illinois University (1959), where he was a member of the track team

Active community member who served on the Altamont Volunteer Fire Department and Effingham County Fair Board; named Altamont's Citizen of the Year in 2003

Survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley, three children, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson
