Served nearly a decade with the Burnham Fire Department, rising to deputy chief in the 1980s, and joined the Burnham Police Department in 1980, reaching the rank of sergeant in 2006

Played a key role in the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force for nearly 15 years, helping solve hundreds of serious cases; also helped form the Illiana Regional Gang Task Force

Survived by his wife Kimberly, five daughters, four sons, and nine grandchildren; the Illinois Senate extends condolences to his family
