Illinois Senate resolution mourning the death of Captain James A. "Jim" Lovell Jr., USN (Ret.), of Lake Forest, who passed away on August 7, 2025

Honors Lovell's distinguished NASA career spanning nearly 11 years, during which he made four space flights including Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8 (first manned flight to the moon), and Apollo 13, accumulating 713 hours in space—the most of any astronaut at that time

Recognizes his military service as a Navy test pilot who graduated first in his class and served as project manager for the F4H Phantom fighter jet before retiring as a naval captain on March 1, 1973

Notes his numerous honors including the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Navy Distinguished Service Medal, and an Emmy Award for Apollo 8's Christmas Eve broadcast from the moon

Directs that a copy of the resolution be presented to Lovell's surviving family, including his four children, 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren
