Founded the Legacy Project in 2010, honoring LGBTQ+ contributions to world history and culture, and helped launch the NAMES Project Chicago Chapter, bringing the AIDS Memorial Quilt to Chicago in 1988, 1990, and 1994

Served as founding board member of Open Hand Chicago, a meals-on-wheels program for people with HIV/AIDS that evolved into the GroceryLand pantry network, resulting in nearly 20,000,000 meals distributed over 37 years

Inducted into the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame in 1994 and known as "Chicago's AIDS angel" for her volunteer work with numerous organizations including Chicago House, Howard Brown Health, and AIDS Walk Chicago
